3 April 1896
La Gazzetta dello Sport is born in Milan

On 3 April 1896 two rival cycling sheets, Il Ciclista and La Tripletta, merged in Milan to create La Gazzetta dello Sport, the paper that from 1899 would run on its unmistakable rose-pink stock. Three years after its own birth the same paper would carry to the city the notice of a new red-and-black football and cricket club taking shape across town. The Gazzetta and Milan thus grew up together in the same fog-bound Lombard capital, and it is the Gazzetta's rosa pages that to this day proclaim each Italian champion.
