1926-27: San Siro opens its gates

The defining moment of the decade came off the pitch: on 19 September 1926 Milan inaugurated the new San Siro stadium, built at president Piero Pirelli's expense as the club's own home — though the opening friendly was lost 6-3 to Inter. In the first Divisione Nazionale, coached by the Englishman Herbert Burgess, Milan finished in the middle of its group, while the title won by Torino was famously revoked over the Allemandi bribery affair and never reassigned. Milan now possessed a stadium worthy of ambitions the team could not yet match.
