Herbert Kilpin is born in Nottingham

On 24 January 1870, in the lace-making city of Nottingham, Herbert Kilpin was born the son of a local butcher, one of many children in a working-class English household. He grew up amid the industrial Midlands just as association football was taking root, learning the game on the streets and turning out for amateur sides. No one could have foreseen that this English boy would one day be revered in Italy as il fondatore, the founding father of AC Milan. Forza Milan begins here, in an English winter.
